
As the design IC (individual contributor) on the PowerBI team, you’ll serve as the lead technical creative for building user-friendly interfaces for a complex array of internal reporting applications.
You’ll have an immediate impact working closely with our technical staff to build innovative solutions from concept to completion. You’ll contribute alongside development teams, while also playing a pivotal role in elevating product experiences and ensuring project success. Specifically, you’ll work closely with business owners and stakeholders in Editorial, Production, Sales, Marketing, Publicity, and Consumer Marketing to translate a complex array of business goals and strategies into powerful PowerBI product experiences that are not only functional but also provide an exceptional user experience.
A successful candidate will have a strong foundational understanding of software development and information architecture, specific to PowerBI, while also nimbly navigating ambiguity through proactive and creative leadership. The candidate will report to the VP of Insights & Analytics.
Specific responsibilities include:

Independently explore and develop solutions from concept to execution; design and ship high-quality product improvements to new and existing PowerBI products used by internal and external audiences

Lead the end-to-end interaction and visual design of user-friendly PowerBI / IT products and services that are accessible and enhance usability

Conduct UX interviews and testing methods to drive usability and adoption of core PowerBI tools

Work cross-functionally with product and design leadership to develop and build a PowerBI design system (based on Penguin Random House’s design system).

Contribute to overall strategy and decision-making about product direction

Deliver and refine clear storytelling around product needs and opportunities to key stakeholders; technical and non-technical audiences

Work with your team members and cross-functional partners to scope project requirements, driving nimbly towards timelines and milestones

Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent with experience (4+ years) designing intuitive, high-quality UX and UI for complex systems, preferably for PowerBI and IT related industries

Expertise in crafting complex PowerBI interfaces that are accessible

Experience working collaboratively in a team environment while handling complex projects with overlapping organizational lines

Proficiency in prototyping ideas to help articulate design decisions

Proficiency in design and prototyping tools like Figma

In browser and in app (PowerBI) prototyping

Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus

Ability to leverage strong understanding of information architecture to organize content intuitively for a vast array of users

Sharp attention to detail to uphold high quality standards on all projects

Excellent, proactive communication and interpersonal skills
The Penguin Random House national headquarters is located in New York City. While we encourage candidates within a reasonable commuting distance to join us in the office on a hybrid schedule, we also welcome qualified remote applicants anywhere in the United States who can work primarily during Eastern Time hours.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
