We are seeking a Product Designer with a passion for data-rich experiences to lead the design of internal analytics and reporting tools powered by Power BI.
This is not a traditional consumer product design role—you’ll focus on shaping complex, data-heavy workflows into intuitive, user-friendly dashboards and interfaces used across Editorial, Sales, Marketing, and more. You’ll act as a key translator between business stakeholders and technical teams, bringing clarity, structure, and strong design thinking to highly complex information.
You’ll own the end-to-end design process—from discovery and concepting through execution—while helping elevate the overall user experience of our internal data products. The candidate will report to the VP of Insights & Analytics.
Specific responsibilities include:
-
Independently explore and develop solutions from concept to execution; design and ship high-quality product improvements to new and existing PowerBI products used by internal and external audiences
-
Lead the end-to-end interaction and visual design of user-friendly PowerBI / IT products and services that are accessible and enhance usability
-
Conduct UX interviews and testing methods to drive usability and adoption of core PowerBI tools
-
Work cross-functionally with product and design leadership to develop and build a PowerBI design system (based on Penguin Random House’s design system).
-
Contribute to overall strategy and decision-making about product direction
-
Deliver and refine clear storytelling around product needs and opportunities to key stakeholders; technical and non-technical audiences
-
Work with your team members and cross-functional partners to scope project requirements, driving nimbly towards timelines and milestones
Required qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent with experience
-
4+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, or data visualization design
- Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with:
- Complex systems, internal tools, or data-rich applications
- Clear information architecture and interaction design
- Experience designing dashboards, reporting tools, or analytics experiences
-
Proficiency in Figma (or similar design/prototyping tools)
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with Power BI or similar platforms (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Mode)
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Experience working in cross-functional environments with technical and business stakeholders
