We are seeking a Publicity Assistant to support the Director of Publicity at Penguin Young Readers, a division of Penguin Random House. We’re looking for someone who is creative and passionate about children’s and young adult literature. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent time management and prioritization skills, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Drafting press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, interview alerts, quote sheets, etc.
  2. Pitching press interviews and reviews for authors and their books.
  3. Liaising with bookstores to organize author events.
  4. Coordinating travel and other arrangements for major author tours and creating detailed tour schedules for campaigns.
  5. Responding to a variety of calls from media, authors, and booksellers.
  6. Communicating between the Marketing, Editorial, and Production departments.
  7. Maintaining media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of publicity projects in an internal database system.
  8. Performing online research to acquire publicity contacts and assisting with social media platforms.
  9. Attending book events.
  10. Providing general administrative support, including mailings, photocopying, processing invoices, filing, billings, expense reports, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail
  • Strong follow-up skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
