Marketing Manager, Viking Books & Penguin Books (Hybrid)

Viking Penguin is seeking a Marketing Manager to join our team responsible for marketing Viking, Pamela Dorman Books, Penguin Life, The Open Field, Penguin Books and Penguin Classics, imprints which publish a range of fiction and nonfiction from bestselling and award-winning authors.

Reporting to the Marketing Director, you will have the opportunity to oversee all aspects of marketing for assigned titles, collaborate across teams on imprint-wide campaigns and initiatives, and work closely with authors.

About the Team:  As part of the Viking Penguin Marketing Department, you will work on books that shape national conversation and culture. We publish world-renowned academics and leaders who inspire new ways of thinking; beloved fiction authors whose novels make their way to the top of the New York Times bestseller list; and wellness experts who arm readers with tools, insights, and encouragement to live fuller, healthier lives. Authors we publish include Amor Towles, Tana French, Richard Osman, Adam Grant, Martha Beck, Dr. Uche Blackstock, Maria Shriver, Matt Haig, and Rebecca Makkai, among many others.

Our team shepherds more than 100 new books into the world each year, in addition to a treasured backlist packed with perennial bestsellers. Marketers are constantly seeking new points of discovery with readers, including but not limited to data-driven advertising strategies, outreach to buzz-building influencers, and generating organic content on owned platforms.

As a Marketing Manager, you will:

  • Generate, implement, and analyze creative marketing campaigns in conjunction with the Marketing Director and work independently to execute plans
  • Coordinate digital advertising campaigns by strategizing targeting and copy, and collaborating with internal ad buyers and designers on campaign set-up and creatives
  • Develop imprint and author social media strategy around a book’s release, including content creation, messaging, and audience activation
  • Identify and spearhead outreach to potential publication partners (influencers, networks, organizations, brands, etc.)
  • Communicate key campaign updates with internal stakeholders, and externally with authors and agents
  • Attend and contribute to new-author acquisition meetings and proposals

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 4-5 years prior related experience in publishing, marketing, publicity, or social media, with experience working on creative and strategic campaigns
  • Prior experience writing advertising copy or briefs for creative teams, with fluency in leading digital advertising platforms, benchmarks, and metrics
  • Working knowledge of established and emerging social media platforms, with experience generating content for brand or author channels; interest in spotting and contributing to trending content preferred
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, keep track of deadlines, and work collaboratively across teams
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Clear and effective presentation and written communication skills

The salary range for this position is $73,500-$75,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

This NYC-based role is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities including mailings, in-person meetings, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
