Managing Editorial Assistant - Berkley

Berkley is seeking a Managing Editorial Assistant to join their team! The Assistant will directly support the Senior Managing Editor and the entire Managing Editorial department with coordinating and monitoring the production process of over 300 titles a year, from edited manuscript to finished book. This job opening is an exciting opportunity to get an overview of the publishing process, and to work with a variety of departments in a fast-paced publishing house.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

  1. Assisting the Managing Editors with maintaining the schedule for jacket and cover materials, helping to keep the informational log up-to-date.
  2. Maintaining schedule for weekly cover meetings with the Art and Editorial departments, creating agendas and coordinating materials.
  3. Routing and tracking jacket and cover copy materials to other departments for approval.
  4. Reviewing titles up for reprint and compiling lists of cover and text corrections needed.
  5. Watermarking files for editorial, marketing, publicity, and others as requested.
  6. Updating data in SAP and the FileMaker Pro database. 
  7. Providing general administrative support to the Managing Editorial department, keeping a department calendar, backing up colleagues, and assisting with special projects as needed.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong ability to interact with employees across various departments
  • Superb organizational and time management skills
  • Outstanding ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style
  • Familiarity with FileMaker Pro, InMotion, and/or SAP a plus
