Managing Editor (Operations), Random House Children’s Books


Random House Children's Books seeks a Managing Editor, Operations. This managing editor will work closely with Marketing, Sales, Production, Design, and Editorial. Responsibilities include overseeing the reprint process, coordinating sales material solicitation, and managing the scheduling of signed editions and proprietary titles. The role requires exceptional project-management, communication, organizational, scheduling, and multi-tasking skills. 



  • Reprints: Handles the reprint process – from initial correction to finished reprint
  • Sales materials: Works with Marketing to evaluate sales-materials needs; determine key deadline for sell-in materials; coordinate quantities
  • Signed editions: Oversee all signed edition projects, including establishing and maintaining schedules with editors, publicists, Inventory Manager, and Sales staff
  • Proprietary editions: Handles all scheduling and material routing with Copyediting, Editorial, and Design; runs monthly status meeting
  • Awards: Coordinate with Production, Design, Editorial, Publisher’s Office, and Inventory Management to incorporate award images on books



  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in managing editorial, production editorial, or project management
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and quickly on multiple projects unflustered by interruption
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to organize and prioritize workload to accommodate shifting schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to help others navigate challenging deadlines, assist with their work as needed
  • Strong technological skills, especially editing in Microsoft Word. Excel and File Maker a plus
