Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor - Crown Trade

We are currently seeking an Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor to join Crown’s editorial team. Bestselling authors on Crown’s list include President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, President George W. Bush, Erik Larson, Rachel Maddow, Ben Macintyre, and Susan Cain. The position provides an opportunity to support two Executive Editors who specialize in non-fiction, one based in the New York office and one who primarily works remotely.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating proposals and gathering data to assist editors in acquisition process
  • Assisting editors in providing notes and line-edits on manuscript drafts
  • Working closely with colleagues in other departments to manage the production span for each title
  • Drafting copy for book jackets, catalogues, and title information sheets
  • Acting as a liaison between authors/agents and the editorial department
  • Providing administrative support, including scheduling, copying, filing, etc.

 

Additional requirements we are looking for include:

  • A strong writer who has a broad reading sensibility and specific interest in non-fiction
  • Strong knowledge and interest of current events, politics, and cultural trends
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a high volume environment
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Prior internship or entry-level experience at a book publisher or literary agency helpful but not necessary

 

Salary for this position is $40,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
