Editorial Assistant – Harmony/Rodale Books


We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to join our team.  This position provides an opportunity to assist two Harmony/Rodale Editors, one who works mostly remotely, as well as part time assistance of a Ten Speed Editor, who works in San Francisco.

Publishing books that offer unique approaches to health and wellness, lifestyle, diet, self-improvement, relationships, parenting and spirituality, Harmony/Rodale guides readers to become their best selves both inside and out.


Daily responsibilities include proposal/manuscript screening, drafting cover copy, and all-around project support for the editors.  In addition to providing administrative support, this position also acts as a liaison between authors, agents, and different departments within the Random House Publishing Group. We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-starter who is invested in learning about the publishing industry. The ideal candidate will be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities.



  • Evaluating proposals and manuscripts
  • Researching trends and competition, including comps
  • Communicating with authors and agents
  • Writing flap copy and fact sheets
  • Running P&Ls and other sales reports
  • Collaborating with all in-house departments (publicity, marketing, sales, production, design, etc.)
  • Coordinating the editorial and production process
  • Providing administrative support, including scheduling, copying, filing, etc.



  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
  • Strong interpersonal skills, & ability to multi-task successfully
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
