Editor/Senior Editor, YA and Crossover Quick-to-Market Publishing (Open to Remote)

G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers is seeking an Editor or Senior Editor to focus exclusively on quick-to-market publishing opportunities. This new role is designed for a trend-savvy, digitally fluent editor who thrives on discovering and acquiring stories with breakout potential for teen and crossover audiences. The Editor/Senior Editor will identify high-impact content emerging from social media, digital platforms, and creator communities, and work collaboratively across departments to move projects from acquisition to publication with speed and precision. This position reports to the Senior Executive Editor, Publishing Director, G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers.  

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Identifies and acquires quick-to-market YA and crossover fiction through digital platforms such as Wattpad, TikTok, and Kindle Unlimited. 
  • Tracks social media and digital publishing trends to spot emerging authors, tropes, and subgenres with viral potential. 
  • Develops strong relationships with agents, self-published authors, and content creators. 
  • Evaluates the commercial viability of potential acquisitions using engagement metrics, audience data, and comparative performance. 
  • Prepares concise internal pitch materials and data-driven acquisition memos for review. 
  • Negotiates and contracts with authors and agents. 
  • Oversees all aspects of editorial development. 
  • Collaborates closely with design, marketing, publicity, and sales to define launch strategies. 
  • Builds and maintains a robust list of at least nine frontlist titles per year.

  • Minimum 5 years of editorial experience
  • Strong knowledge of the YA and crossover markets, including current tropes and reader trends
  • Demonstrated success sourcing authors or stories via social and digital channels 
  • Comfort working on compressed production timelines and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with trend-tracking tools, reader analytics, and metadata optimization
  • Collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for cross-department teamwork 

 

The salary for the Editor position is $73,500. The salary range for the Senior Editor position is $81,500-$83,500. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
