We have an opportunity for a full-time Production Associate on the team that develop ebook editions for fiction and nonfiction titles (middle grade through young adult) and for study aids for standardized testing. Our team is passionate about the future of reading, and we are looking for a candidate with the ability to identify and facilitate the best digital reading experience for a wide range of titles.

 

The Ebook Production Associate will create and correct ebooks, maintain production schedules, perform quality assurance on ebook files, distribute files to retail partners, assist in developing code and workflows for advanced conversions, and test new software and hardware as our digital publishing programs evolve. This position will require frequent interaction with contacts in the editorial and design departments to discuss product development and resolve quality issues. As such, strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.

 

Ebook production requires significant hands-on technical and design skills. Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated expertise with HTML/XHTML coding, particularly with advanced features of HTML 5 and CSS 3. Candidates should also have direct design experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop (Creative Cloud preferred). Candidates should feel comfortable working in a Mac-based environment.

 

Careful attention to detail throughout the course of collaborative, multi-phase, digital projects is required. Applicants should come prepared to discuss relevant examples from at least one year of prior experience (in rigorous academic and/or business settings) with this kind of work. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred. 

 

Knowledge of ebook production processes and/or print production processes will also be a valuable asset, as will a general interest in book publishing as an industry.
