One World, an imprint of Random House, a division of Penguin Random House, seeks a Director of Publicity to join its Integrated Marketing team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead publicity strategy for the imprint, work with authors who are shaping the national conversation, collaborate across departments, and play a leadership role in our Integrated Marketing department.

The ideal candidate will have experience planning and executing high-profile PR campaigns, an intimate knowledge and established network of national broadcast, print and online media contacts, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. We are looking for a collaborative, creative thinker who is energized by trying new ideas. Candidates should be strong communicators with internal and external stakeholders, and talented project managers who have a refined sense of task prioritization for themselves and those who work closely with them.

In this senior leadership role, you will report to the SVP, Publicity Director for the Random House Group, and will have at least one direct report, plus the opportunity to work with publicists across levels from the Integrated Marketing department.

Externally, they will communicate daily with authors, agents, booksellers and event venue coordinators, members of the media, and partner organizations.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing and advising on the strategy and planning of publicity campaigns across the One World list; this includes identifying possible readerships, maximizing exposure for our authors and books through earned media roll-outs, creating dynamic author events, and brainstorming ideas for engaging the sales department, outside partners and bulk sales opportunities, and social media communities.
  • High-touch author care and attentive communication with forthcoming, current, and past One World authors.
  • Helping identify seasonal priorities in concert with the publisher, editors and marketing director.
  • Collaborating with One World publisher and editors on brand-building opportunities, including outside partnerships, special events, pre-publication efforts, and more.
  • Overseeing the yearly title publicity budget in partnership with your marketing counterpart.
  • Managing, motivating and problem-solving with a team of at least one direct report
  • Personally executing earned publicity campaigns for high-profile and up-and-coming authors each season.
  • Developing, researching, and maintaining strong relationships with national, online, local, and multicultural media contacts.
  • Attending and presenting at regular sales, publishing and integrated marketing meetings.
  • Media training and prepping authors for media and events.

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

  • At least 6-7 years of relevant experience in public relations
  • Experience managing a staff member
  • Exceptional communication and pitching skills
  • Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts
  • Experience presenting in front of large groups including internal meetings
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
