Director, Brand Communications

Penguin Random House, the home to a staggering array of beloved, well-known authors, bestsellers, and prize-winners, is seeking a Director, Brand Communications, to join our busy and fast-paced Corporate Communications team. 

 

As Director, your focus will be split between external PR and internal communications, working in close partnership with the rest of the team. You’ll also partner directly with the EVP on supporting the executive leadership with strategic communications, as well as with a broad range of internal colleagues, to help elevate our company’s story. The ideal candidate will proactively develop and implement programs and initiatives, partnerships, and activities that both educate and elevate diversity, inclusion, and equity as core values of Penguin Random House.

The Responsibilities: 

 

  • Prepare, research, plan, and implement integrated communications strategies derived from business priorities, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Create and execute traditional and non-traditional engagement campaigns to generate media interest in Penguin Random House’s social impact & responsibility programs and initiatives.
  • Develop and coordinate internal and external communications about the company’s diversity and inclusion strategy in partnership with Human Resources, our D&I Council members, executive leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify issues, and create and manage crisis management plans in collaboration with key stakeholders as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to protect brand/company reputation.
  • Consistently produce high quality internal communications content.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills are required. 
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in the field. Experience in media and entertainment is desirable but not essential. 
  • Ability to simplify the complex and strategically tailor communications depending on the audience/stakeholder.
  • A strong interest and direct experience in diversity, equity and inclusion communication strategy is preferred.
  • Proven aptitude to solve problems and adapt responsively and flexibly in a fast-paced ever-changing environment.
  • Experience in devising, managing, and executing communications and project plans.
  • Proactive self-starter who can manage complex tasks and projects quickly with minimal supervision.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to protect brand/company reputation.
