This role

You will identify and provide data that delivers compelling and actionable insight and drives decision making.

 

You will use data to provide insight to drive lasting competitive advantage, bringing the voice of the consumer into DK across the global business.  You will have a specific focus on understanding our US audience and monitoring the US book market and DK's performance in it.

 

You will be part of the global DK Data & Insight team, so you understand DK's global data, though be US based and you will work closely with DK and Penguin Random House colleagues in the US.

 

Overview & Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the US data and cultural landscape, developing best in class use of DK, Penguin Random House and external US data sources
  • Understand and help develop the data and insight needs of internal stakeholders across US Sales, Marketing and Publishing departments, using data to inform, shape and evaluate publishing, brand, online, consumer, marketing and sales strategies
  • Translate business needs into analytical products and services which can subsequently be delivered globally across DK
  • Identify opportunities to use new datasets, help shape processes to bring data into DK and put it into the hands of our users in ways they can use
  • Evolve data & insight in DK to give DK competitive advantage and inform business planning and decisions
  • Use data visualizations to communicate with impact and provide actionable insight to our internal customers
  • Act as part of the central Data & Insigh team, though be in the US market & consumer expert and champion

 

Market

Rigoroulsy analyze DK's US sales and set them in context of DK's global performance, identifying opportunities, and providing competitor and trend analysis:

  • Provide insight that aids business planning
  • Provide forecasts and benchmarking as well as preemptive or responsive recommendations
  • Undertake other ad-hoc business intelligence reporting using a variety of datasets

 

Consumer

  • Produce consumer, competitor, trend and market analysis, assessing opportunity, providing forecasts KPIs or benchmarks as well as preemptive or responsive actions as appropriate to drive meaningful action
  • Use web analytics, segmentation and social listening tools to provide the voice of the consumer within DK and improve our understanding of our audiences
  • Help shape the selection & management of technology, tools and partners to drive market and consumer insight and build the business capability to exploit it
  • Undertake other ad-hoc business intelligence reporting and analysis using a range of analytic tools
  • Innovate: Identify areas for process improvement and new solutions, devise new and meaningful ways to showcase/visualize data for maximum impact & craft tests and testing methodology to optimize learnings and performance 
  • Leverage existing PRH US and US Business Intelligence, Insight, data, analysis and consumer teams, tools and software where appropriate

 

Key Skills & Requirements

2 years + experience in consumer, product, market insight, data & analytics

 

INSIGHT & DATA

  • Data mining & visualization including dashboards and business intelligence tools
  • Develop and deliver business intelligence, insight, data and analytics frameworks and solutions
  • Design and delivery of analytical models
  • Use of a wide variety of software/tools and analytics packages
  • Ability to translate business needs into actionable insight
  • Experience briefing and managing 3rd parties
  • Experience in at least two of the following: Google Analytics, social listening, consumer segmentation, search optimization, marketing campaign evaluation, attribution modeling, sales analysis and forecasting, web-trend analysis, business intelligence

 

PERSONAL

  • Background in data, analytics, insight, statistics, economics or market research (preferably with qualifications in these subjects)
  • Data visualization and an ability to present data in compelling ways
  • A genuine desire to build great capabilities, strategies & tactics
  • Keen analytical mind, answers the why as well as the what
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Disciplined - ensuring programs of work are prioritized, well defined and delivered to agreed timescale and quality
  • Strong relationship building skills, including negotiation & executive interaction
