The DK publicity department seeks an Associate Publicist to execute publicity campaigns for approximately 8-10 books each season, manage his or her own titles and offer support to the Publicist and Associate Director of Publicity on larger campaigns.  A well-spoken individual wiht previous full-time work experience from a major publishing house or relevant public relations agency would be an ideal candidate.


DK is the bestselling and award-winning publisher know for informing, entertaining, and educating global audiences through beautifully designed content.  DK also publishes the Eyewitness series for children and Eyewitness Travel Guides.  Prima and Alpha Books are also available from DK, a division of Penguin Random House.


Specifically, the Associate Publicist:

  1. Executes publicity campaigns for approximately 8-10 books each season alongside senior public relations staff members.
  2. Researches media outlets, writes press materials, cull media lists, pitch and book events, makes travel arrangements for authors, and attends weekly publicity and sales and marketing meetings.
  3. Pitches books to media in a timely manner and secures press coverage for assigned titles as well as key backlist categories.
  4. Attends local bookstore and press events when necessary, and attends conference and trade shows on occasion.
  5. Provides support in writing quarterly corporate communication documents.
  6. Tracks departmental expenses and warehouse mailings against set budgets.
  7. Assists senior members of the department on their projects.

  • Two years prior book publicity or public relations experience desired
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manager multiple priorities simultaneously 
  • Strong word processing skills; Experience using Cisionpoint or Vocus and Google Drive a plus
  • Knowledgeable about Edelweiss and Net Galley online services
  • Able to travel up to 5% of the year via car, plane, or train
