Penguin Random House is seeking a Backlist Publishing Manager to support the backlist and paperback republishing efforts for several Penguin Publishing Group imprints. This position will work closely with the publishers, marketing teams, editorial groups and sales management to maximize the selling potential of a massive list of titles.

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Associate Publisher, the Manager will be responsible for independently generating industry analysis reports and interpreting data to best identify and create sales and publishing opportunities for the 10,000+ titles that make up the backlist of these four diverse publishing imprints. Included in the backlist are major commercial fiction brands, women’s fiction, mystery, thriller, romance, science fiction, and nonfiction spanning many subcategories and genres.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Generating reports and providing analysis in order to identify opportunities that will increase revenue for over 10,000+ backlist titles.
  2. Communicating with publishing divisions, and the sales, marketing and publicity teams to leverage data findings into sales opportunities.
  3. Creating and designing visual data presentations for author/agent presentations, business reviews, and selling materials.
  4. Working closely with marketing and publishing teams to identify ways to leverage backlist in an effort to drive front list sales and readership growth efforts.
  5. Creating regular & reoccurring backlist reports designed to track current business and trends.
  6. Tracking sales trends before and after metadata adjustments are made to titles or sets of titles.

 

Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years related experience in either data analysis, genre fiction publishing, book sales, book marketing or book publishing
  • Capacity for big-picture thinking and detailed follow-through
  • Creative problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to successfully manage internal relationships
  • Highly organized with the ability to self-start and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and especially Excel
  • Knowledge of Business Objects, strongly preferred
