Marketing and Publicity Manager, Random House Publishing Group Backlist

 

Random House Publishing Group is seeking an experienced, creative, and enthusiastic marketer/publicist to join a team of backlist strategists supporting the diversified titles of all Random House Group imprints. Working directly with our SVP of Backlist Strategy and Development across the division, this newly created position combining marketing and publicity will report jointly into the SVP Directors of Marketing and Publicity for the Random House Publishing Group (RHPG).

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the full portfolio of Random House divisional publishers (Random House, One World, Modern Library, Ballantine Bantam, Dell, Del Rey, Crown, Currency, Forum, Convergent, WaterBrook, Multnomah, Image, Ink & Willow, Clarkson Potter, Harmony/Rodale, and Ten Speed Press), marketers, publicists, and the fully integrated marketing team to make a real impact on backlist sales growth—and to campaign specifically on highly relevant and sought-after titles with established momentum that consumers most want to read now.

 

The Manager will design and execute customized campaigns for a rich assortment of backlist books across RHPG’s various imprints (a catalog of over 35,500 titles). They will help set and meet ambitious goals for backlist sales growth, working closely with RHPG’s teams focused on backlist strategy, integrated marketing services, analytics, and digital/metadata, as well as divisional title marketers and publicists on key opportunity titles and categories.  

  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Create and implement results-driven marketing and publicity campaigns for key backlist titles and categories, prioritizing projects based on market data, sales reports, and consumer trends
  2. In collaboration with the RH integrated marketing team, employ tailored marketing and publicity tactics (these may include activating AMS, asset creation for Amazon A+ pages and author social, engaging RH and PRH social channels, partnerships, live events, influencer campaigns, trend pitches to media, etc.)
  3. Coordinate with the RH digital team, help to prioritize the optimization of metadata (keywords, copy, and images) on opportunity titles to enhance discoverability and consumer engagement online
  4. Work closely with dedicated backlist specialists, RH analytics, RH digital, and PRH corporate consumer engagement and analytics to design, measure, and implement a best practices toolkit for backlist marketing
  5. Create new sales assets as needed for expanded distribution opportunities (ex: sell sheets, PowerPoint slides)
  6. Send regular reports to backlist and publishing teams of campaign details, goals, and learned insights

 

Qualifications:

 

  • A minimum of 4-6 years of book marketing and/or publicity experience
  • Able to demonstrate, with examples, ability to develop and execute successful marketing and publicity campaigns from strategy through execution
  • Entrepreneurial, curious, detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated, with great follow-through
  • Superb analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Superb communication skills and the ability to speak fluently and influentially about RHPG strengths and strategy with top authors and key stakeholders
  • Ability to set and meet goals under an established budget
  • Experience with MS Office suite
