Penguin Random House has a wonderful opportunity for an Associate Publicist to join Vintage Books and Anchor Books, imprints of Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Dedicated to releasing Knopf Doubleday’s award-wining and best-selling titles in paperback, Vintage/Anchor is an industry-leading paperback publisher, with a roster of authors that includes Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Margaret Atwood, James Baldwin, Dan Brown, Paulo Coelho, Dave Eggers, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jhumpa Lahiri, Stieg Larsson, Cormac McCarthy, Toni Morrison, Alice Munro, Haruki Murakami, Richard Russo, Cheryl Strayed, and Colson Whitehead, among many others. The Associate Publicist position at Vintage/Anchor provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in a creative and hands-on department renowned by readers as the pre-eminent publisher of trade paperbacks in the U.S.. Reporting to the Director of Publicity, the Associate Publicist will be responsible both for independent campaign work on a diverse list of titles each season and for general assistance to other members of the department. In addition to providing administrative support to the Director of Publicity, the Associate Publicist will liaise with authors and their agents, as well as different departments throughout Penguin Random House, in performing the daily publicity activities outlined below.


The Role

  • Develop and execute publicity plans on a diverse list of books, working closely with high-profile authors, other members of the publicity team, the marketing department, and editorial staff
  • Act as the point person for inquiries pertaining to specific publicity plans/books
  • Act as the point person for general book and author queries on a daily basis
  • Conceive creative press releases and pitch books to print, online, and broadcast media
  • Responsible for booking and managing promotional author events, both virtual and, in the future, in person, and supporting these by securing regional media in event markets
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to augment traditional media bookings on social and digital media platforms


The Essentials

  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of publicity experience working in book publishing, media, magazines, or entertainment
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate appropriately across all levels and divisions of the company as well as with external parties
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Programs
  • Creative, innovative, and resourceful approach to publicity and possess excellent knowledge of diverse media outlets
  • Strong understanding of social media including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and how these platforms can be used to augment successful book publicity campaigns
  • A belief in the importance of books and a genuine passion for sharing great books with others
