We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Manager or Manager to join the Specialty Retail Sales team! This position involves selling Penguin Random House’s breadth of titles to key retail and wholesale accounts within the mind, body, spirit, health, wellness, and erotica categories. The role is responsible for responding to customer needs, developing new business, and working collaboratively with other internal departments.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Researching new concepts and opportunities within assigned categories to drive both revenue and profit.
  2. Pitching book products to new and existing customers, sourcing contacts, and opening new accounts.
  3. Developing, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with key customers.
  4. Maximizing sales growth within the established account base by acquiring and renewing orders.
  5. Communicating with management regarding account activities (i.e. reorders, account strategy).
  6. Positioning relevant front list and backlist titles within account base.
  7. Staying up-to-date on new titles and other general information for customers.
  8. Communicating with key account contacts on all matters pertaining to buying, distributing, and marketing.
  9. Preparing monthly sales reports.
  10. Analyzing sales data as it relates to budgets and creating strategies to maximize sales within those budgets.
  11. Attending trade shows as needed.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ of sales experience, including direct selling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Highly organized with the ability to self-start and prioritize a heavy workload
  • Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently
  • Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on numbers and financials
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year via plane, train, or car
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
