Art Department Assistant

 

We are looking for an Assistant to support the art department that works on titles for our Viking, Pam Dorman Books, Penguin/Penguin Classics, and Penguin Press imprints. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in learning about the inner-workings of a fast-paced art department in a large publishing house!

 

Specifically, the Art Department Assistant:

 

  1. Provides administrative support to the Art Manager as needed.
  2. Ensures all art and design rights for each title have been license/cleared for use in all formats & editions before its release.
  3. Coordinates internal and external uploading of all covers to internal database.
  4. Manages the internal and external release of covers/jacket design files and billing for foreign adaptation rights.
  5. Liaises with and field requests from other in-house departments (such as subsidiary rights and publicity) for cover and jacket files.
  6. Codes and processes invoices.
  7. Tracks and obtains planned art and design sources and commissions information for Art Directors.
  8. Assists staff designers with obtaining hi-resolution images.

  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of prior office experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive and able to provide timely follow through on projects
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Docs

 

Salary for this position is $38,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
