Applications Developer (Java), Penguin Random House

The Applications Developer will join the Reader Engagement Technology team in the IT group at Penguin Random House (PRH).  

 

The Reader Engagement Technology team uses current and emerging technology to engage readers directly, to help marketing teams across the organization to amplify their work, and to help enable the automation, personalization, and data science capabilities that are critical to success in this era of rapid technology change.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Write high quality production code
  • Create and maintain automated test suites to support CI/CD processes
  • Design and implement components, features, and bug fixes on automated marketing systems and related projects
  • Integrate software components with internal and external systems
  • Collaborate effectively with team members across roles and departments
  • Participate in and positively influence a collaborative, respectful, self-reflective tech team process
  • Participate in peer code reviews (as a reviewer and reviewee)

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Java development (primary language, 5 years, Java 8 or greater, Spring framework, Junit, Hibernate, etc.)
  • Python development (secondary language, Python 2.7 or greater)
  • AWS serverless development (1+ years managed services e.g. Lambda, DynamoDB, DataPipeline, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Working in Kanban, Scrum, or similar methodologies
  • Git
  • Some experience with single-page webapp development
  • Relational databases (Oracle, MySql, Postgres or similar, some experience)
