Penguin Publishing Group is seeking an Analyst to join our Business Development and Strategy team, supporting strategic initiatives across the marketing, financial and business strategy facets of Penguin Publishing Group. The Analyst will be responsible for aggregating and analyzing large amounts of data from multiple sources and presenting it in a simple and succinct way.  He/She will work closely with the Business Development and Strategy team, supporting a broad range of projects. This is an excellent opportunity with strong growth potential for a curious person looking to learn. 

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Use internal data systems to extract and aggregate appropriate data sets and present data in a clear and concise format. Data analysis will support finance, pricing, marketing, and ad-hoc projects for the Strategy group
  • Leverage templates to:
    1. Provide analysis on various strategic initiatives
    2. Determine the business impact
    3. Communicate results to business managers and/or other stakeholders as needed
  • Provide aggregated weekly and monthly reporting on strategy projects to various individuals and groups within Penguin Publishing Group
  • Provide ROI analysis to gauge the effectiveness of various marketing campaigns
  • Provide support and backup for the Business Manager in the forecasting and planning for imprints in their division, including the extraction and analysis of data
  • Present and effectively communicate data to Business Managers in a timely and accurate manner for any projects assigned to them
  • Support the Business Development and Strategy team in creating strategic projects and developing insights to drive growth and profitability for the Penguin Adult business

Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Four year degree in Business, Finance, Economics or the quantitative / analytical equivalent, or equivalent work experience
  • 1 to 3 years relevant work experience. Management consulting, financial services, or strategic experience preferred
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with business intelligence software such as Business Objects, SAP and Hyperion
  • Ability to transform large data sets into easy to read and interpret tables, graphs, presentations, etc.
  • A team-player with an eagerness to learn
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong communication & people skills
  • Interest in or knowledge of Media and/or Publishing a plus
