Acquisitions Editor, Zeitgeist


Penguin Random House is currently seeking an Acquisition Editor to join its Zeitgeist imprint. This is an innovative team focused on demand-based, data-driven original titles adaptations across a variety of practical nonfiction titles.


Titles that Zeitgeist has published include: Bake Up!, Anxiety Relief for Teens, Guided Tarot, Dog Training for Kids, The Newlywed Couple’s Devotional, and Love More, Fight Less.


The Acquisitions Editor is primarily responsible for finding and signing the strongest author candidates negotiating work-for-hire contracts, maintaining relationships with authors, and developing departmental processes. A developer and cultivator of relationships, the Acquisitions Editor must build a network of authors.


Other responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and maintaining relationships with authors across a range of nonfiction categories.
  2. Building an expansive network of prospective author candidates who are experts in their respective fields. 
  3. Vetting and identifying the strongest candidates to match editor and project needs, including researching author platforms. 
  4. Negotiating a contract with the author within established parameters of the financial targets set for the project and consulting with legal when needed.
  5. Understanding the financial implications in the contract and using established P&L forms and systems.
  6. Engaging in continuous improvement, developing new processes and systems to meet departmental goals.
