(Associate) Manager, Visual Merchandising Design

The Strategic Market Development group is seeking an Associate Manager or Manager, Visual Merchandising Design, who is excited to contribute to the future of retail at Penguin Random House.  This team focuses on building new platforms, exploring new business models, and developing new products to drive incremental business for Penguin Random House’s retail partners and support stronger marketplace connections to consumers.

Specifically, this role will:

  1. Work with Strategic Market Development team and sales colleagues across a variety of channels to research retail merchandising opportunities and identify how books would live, particularly at non-book retailers.
  2. Build planograms (POG) and accompanying renderings/presentations, including in-store execution—tables, shelving, endcaps, etc.; store flow and space constraints; outpost opportunities; traditional and extended cashwraps/queue lines.
  3. Develop presentations that incorporate consumer & category data, display opportunities, and other programming to enhance retail.
  4. Create and provide on-trend signage design or other merchandising/marketing promotional visuals to meet retailers’ needs and capture their unique brand identities.
  5. Update book merchandising guidelines, education pieces, and store assortment communication templates.

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience and a minimum of 5 years to be considered at the Manager level; prior retail merchandising design experience is highly preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and communicate
  • Superb project management skill including the ability to create new processes/templates
  • Ability to work well in a cross functional team
  • Demonstrated interest in brands and consumer trends
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, with a particular emphasis on PowerPoint
  • Keen interest in the future of omni-channel retail
  • General interest in book publishing and getting books into stores
  • Experience using design software (POG/rendering software, Photoshop, etc.) is a plus
  • Photography experience a plus
