Associate, Global Strategy - (Onsite)

Penguin Random House is seeking a new Associate to join our Global Strategy team. 

 

We are a fast-paced, collaborative team that works directly with the CEO, CSO, and CFO of Penguin Random House on a wide range of strategic and operational initiatives. Every day, we partner with senior leadership across central departments, publishing divisions, international territories and shareholders to advance the development and execution of strategic projects.

 

From exploring new market and business opportunities to implementing strategic initiatives, our scope is an ever-evolving mix of topics at the center of publishing today. Each project brings unique insight and exposure to the inner-workings of Penguin Random House and our parent company, Bertelsmann and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the success of our global publishing company.  

 

As the Associate, you will support cross-functional strategic initiatives and the management of high-priority projects for the organization in the US and globally.  

 

We are a global team that works collaboratively from across multiple geographies.

This role is based in New York City.

  • Direct involvement in driving and supporting high-level, high-impact projects tied to PRH’s global strategy

  • Shared passion for books and stories, “behind-the-scenes” insights into the inner workings of the largest global trade book publisher 

Key responsibilities: 

 

  • Stakeholder Management 
  • Coordinate and support the creation of materials and documentation for US and Global Board meetings and Shareholder meetings 
  • Collaborate with Finance and M&A departments across 10+ international businesses on the presentation of financial information  
  • Monitor inbound Shareholder requests, coordinating across departments and ensuring completion of deliverables 
  • Liaise with Shareholder departments around strategic reporting and governance 
  • Partner with market research experts to provide insights and strategic planning recommendations 
  • Deliver data-driven insights to a broad range of business leaders that tell a story and help to drive strategic decision-making

Project Support, Management and Ownership: 

 

  • Provide high level support for strategic projects and working groups, including capturing key takeaways and actionable follow-ups 
  • Participate in, and later manage and lead, strategic business development projects in the US and internationally

​​​​CEO Communications:

 

  • Collaborate with Global Corporate Communications to prepare the CEO’s internal engagements across 10+ international businesses  
  • Support communications with Shareholders and senior leadership across the company  

Essential Requirements: 

 

  • 2+ years’ work experience either through internships and/or practical work experience 
  • Ability to summarize and visualize information and create compelling storylines tailored to different audiences with Microsoft PowerPoint 
  • Highly organized, self-motivated team player, with a strong ability to prioritize, plan, and execute multiple projects and deadlines 
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Able to find structure, logic, and insight in complex business problems to provide meaningful conclusions and compelling, synthesized recommendations 
  • Driven to work to a high standard of quality and with a professional demeanor 
  • Strong preference for experience in media, consulting, business development, or related field 

Core Requirements: 

 

  • Strong ability to develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders 
  • Able to work independently and adapt in a fast-changing environment 
  • Curious, results driven, and execution oriented with an eye for efficiency 
  • Basic knowledge of financial principles 
  • Master’s Degree strongly preferred 
  • German professional experience a plus 
  • Proficient Microsoft Office user, particularly with PPT, Excel, and Word 

 

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
