Penguin Random House is looking for a highly organized Sales Assistant to support our Publisher Services sales team. The Assistant will support the Vice President and Director of Sales and the team responsible for selling all client titles into Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s, Baker & Taylor and Ingram. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work across significant retail and digital accounts in the world’s leading book publishing house.


This position will be located in our 1745 Broadway office.


Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing weekly sales tracking reports and distributing to national accounts team.
  2. Managing the Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million co-op, uploading all co-ops into an internal database, and making any adjustments to booked co-ops.
  3. Preparing seasonal preview PowerPoint presentations and assisting National Account Managers with materials preparation.
  4. Tracking sales, preparing and submitting daily pre-orders, and overseeing purchase orders.
  5. Updating the Penguin Random House Publisher Services master title grid weekly, monthly and seasonally.
  6. Assisting in creating key account sell-in kits and communicating with various internal departments to obtain selling materials.
  7. Reviewing estimates and initials prior to title releases.
  8. Preparing weekly sales export and reviewing weekly drop-ins for Books-a-Million.
  9. Checking for drop-ins, on-sale-date changes, and title block releases.
  10. Providing general administrative support, including calendar maintenance, preparing weekly staff meeting agendas, executing book mailings to buyers, answering phones and taking messages, etc.

  • Prior office experience a plus
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; SAP and Business Objects a plus
