We are seeking a Sales Assistant to join the Penguin Random House Adult Sales team. In this role, the Assistant will provide administrative and sales support to the team of field sales reps located across the country, as well as to the Sales Director overseeing the field sales efforts. This team is responsible for the sales of all Penguin Publishing Group titles to independent bookstores, as well as regional chains.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Responding to account inquiries and serving as the main point of contact and support for sales representatives.
  2. Maintaining, tracking, analyzing, and distributing weekly sales reports to the field reps and the publishing teams in the NYC headquarters.
  3. Preparing the field reps for sales calls by communicating with various internal departments to obtain sales materials and creating seasonal PowerPoint presentations.
  4. Providing order reports, business reviews, and market trend analysis for the Director of Field Sales and the Vice President, Director of Retail Sales.
  5. Helping to create and process in-store promotions and merchandising opportunities for accounts.
  6. Performing general administrative duties for the department, including mailing review copies, scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and work on multiple projects at a time
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Superb analytical and critical thinking skills, including a comfort with working with numbers
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Genuine interest in book publishing
  • Strong interest in sales
