Junior Designer - Penguin Young Readers

The Marketing team at Penguin Young Readers is seeking a Junior Designer to join their team! In this role, you will support the Assistant Art Director on marketing, sales, and publicity collateral, aid with our digital and social media campaigns, and collaborate on high-profile branding and corporate initiatives. This position is ideal for a candidate looking to grow their design skills on a fast-paced design team, and is interested in learning about major global brands and licenses, such as the New York Times bestselling Who HQ® series, The Last Kids On Earth, and Roald Dahl.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the Assistant Art Director and the design team on new ideas and projects for retail outlets, schools and libraries, and social media campaigns.
  2. Provide administrative support to the Art Director, including archiving files and departmental tasks.
  3. Design a wide range of high-quality marketing and sales pieces including bookmarks, pins, school kits, and advertisements for print and online, all while maintaining brand identities and style guides.
  4. Assist in creating brand marketing projects for some of the biggest licensing titles in the young readers market.
  5. Act as a liaison alongside the Assistant Art Director between various publishing imprints and the marketing department.
  6. Help to brainstorm and develop fresh advertising campaigns centered around our hottest new titles, as well as some of our longstanding Penguin classics.
  7. Keeping up-to-date with design trends and marketing news.

  • Minimum of six months’ design experience to be considered at the Junior Designer level
  • Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro a plus
  • HTML experience a plus
  • A digital portfolio showcasing a strong knowledge of typography and design
  • Ability to work on and manage multiple projects simultaneously under extremely tight deadlines, with a willingness to receive direction and adapt quickly
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in children’s, middle grade and young adult literature and trends
