Editorial Assistant - Random House Graphic

The Random House Graphic department is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join their team! Assisting a Senior Editor, the Assistant will provide administrative support and work on daily editorial tasks for graphic novel projects ranging from chapter books to Young Adult. If you have a genuine passion for graphic novels, enjoy the works of authors like Trung Le Nguyen and Lucy Knisley, and are looking to learn about the editorial process within a distinguished publishing house, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!


In this role, you will:

  1. Log and track manuscript submissions, read and evaluate submissions, assist with editorial notes and input line edits on manuscripts.
  2. Schedule and traffic title list materials to other departments, including production, design, marketing, publicity, and sales.
  3. Act as a point person for authors and agents on everyday requests.
  4. Prepare P&Ls, contract proposals, and check requests, submit copyright notices, and interface with Library of Congress to obtain CIP data and LC numbers
  5. Draft cover, flap, and online copy, front matter, and Title Information sheets
  6. Attend editorial meetings and offer creative input
  7. Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining files, scanning documents, mailing packages, and ordering books for office and authors

  • Strong interest in graphic novels or comic books
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • A collaborative spirit
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Microsoft Word (particularly Word Processing), Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of the cultural landscape and exhibits an initiative to stay abreast of trends and conversations in the industry
  • Understanding of Photoshop is a plus
