Brand Publicity Manager - Penguin Young Readers

Penguin Young Readers, a division of Penguin Random House, seeks a Brand Publicity Manager to join its Publicity team. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and implement innovative publicity plans and campaigns for key bestselling authors/brands, licenses, and franchises, including The World of Eric Carle, Mad Libs, Llama Llama, Roald Dahl, and the Who HQ series.


The ideal candidate will have experience working and collaborating with major brand partners and licensors (ideally in the children’s content space), crafting press materials, analyzing market trends to inform media strategies, developing relevant pitch angles, and securing media coverage for major brands. He/she/them will report to the Vice President, Executive Director of Publicity and Corporate Communications and will also work closely with our brand marketing team as well as our editorial and sales teams.  We are looking for a creative and independent thinker with excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.


Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Strategizing, planning, and executing publicity initiatives and campaigns that will maximize exposure for our leading brands and franchises.
  2. Securing national and regional TV, print, radio and online feature and review coverage for key brands and individual titles.
  3. Planning and booking experiential events in partnership with bookstores, libraries, schools, and other leading brands.
  4. Coaching and prepping authors and brand spokespeople for media interviews.
  5. Developing and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with authors, brand representatives, licensors and the media.
  6. Analyzing market trends and sales data to inform PR strategy for our leading brands.
  7. Drafting compelling press materials and targeted pitches.
  8. Attending and presenting at weekly sales, marketing, and publicity meetings.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations and brand management
  • Experience in children’s entertainment is ideal but not required
  • Exceptional writing and pitching skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and research skills
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also maintaining accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Understanding of social media as a marketing tool
