Associate Sales Manager/Sales Manager- Penguin Publishing Group

We are seeking an Associate Sales Manager or Sales Manager to sell a variety of titles to major key customers in a growing and ever-changing environment. In this role, you will position and pitch all of the Penguin Publishing Group adult titles to Airport Retailers. Serving as the main liaison between the New York City office and book retailers located in Georgia, Florida, New York, and New Jersey, this role will clearly demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the retailers and optimize all opportunities to maximize sales.


Responsibilities for this role include:

  1. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Executing all sales activity associated with assigned accounts and publishers.
  2. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Maintaining knowledge of the account base and customer needs including frequent contact with account management and buying staff.
  3. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Collaborating with the Senior National Account Manager, Divisional Sales Director and internal sales teams on a variety of sales initiatives.
  4. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Communicating regularly with publishing and sales staff in order to set title goals, placement details, and promotional plans.
  5. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Coordinating sales and marketing activities with appropriate publishing staff.
  6. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Participating in all aspects of the Sales Conference meeting process.
  7. <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Managing retailer coop programs, author events and appearances, and supervision of bestseller and promotional lists.


Ideal candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Minimum of 2 years of prior sales experience
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Minimum of 3 years of sales experience, including direct selling, to be considered at the Manager level
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Genuine interest in reading
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Ability to think creatively, including recognizing new sales opportunities or account prospects
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Ability to work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">Requires up to 20% travel of the year
