Penguin Random House is seeking a new Associate Manager to join our Corporate Development team, reporting to the VP, Corporate Development.

 

We are a fast-paced, collaborative team that works closely with the CEO of Penguin Random House on a broad range of strategic and operational topics. Every day, we partner with PRH senior leadership locally and globally across corporate departments, publishing divisions, international territories and shareholders. Our scope is an ever-evolving mix of topics including implementation of strategic initiatives, exploring new business opportunities, developing market analyses and creating business updates for shareholder forums. Each project we undertake brings unique insight and exposure to the inner-workings of Penguin Random House and our parent company, Bertelsmann.

 

As the Associate Manager, your day-to-day projects will take you from diving deep into one operational topic for a period of time to helping scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects. No two days are the same which keeps our project list dynamic. Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive content development and preparation of key shareholder documents.
  • Conduct research and analysis to update executive team on industry trends.
  • Prepare briefings for key meetings for CEO.
  • Provide support in German communications with Bertelsmann departments.
  • Manage content development and preparation of Penguin Random House-related strategy presentations for Bertelsmann events such as the Management Congress, Annual Press Briefing.
  • Provide high level of support and assistance to VP and Senior Manager of department on various strategic projects.
  • Manage smaller-scale projects independently (responsible for developing & maintaining project plans, executing analysis, and documenting results).
  • Support executive leadership team meetings.
  • Liaise with wide range of global senior leadership to address one-off questions and requests.

 

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years’ work experience either through internships and/or practical work experience in media, consulting, business development related field.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; ability to find structure, logic, and insight in complex business problems to provide meaningful conclusions.
  • Highly organized and strong ability to prioritize, plan, and execute multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a project-based, collaborative team environment.
  • Proactive mindset and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communications skills and personable. Must be comfortable communicating and interacting with all levels.
  • Excellent English and German communication skills; written and oral fluency in both.
  • 4-year College degree or equivalent work experience. 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly excel and power point.
  • Previous work experience within Penguin Random House or Bertelsmann a plus.
