PUNCH, an online magazine about drinks and drinking culture in collaboration with Penguin Random House and the Crown Publishing Group (home of Clarkson Potter and Ten Speed Press), is seeking a self-directed, well-connected Deputy Editor to work in the Brooklyn office. The ideal candidate will be fluent in the modern language of drinks and have experience editing for national publications. The Deputy Editor will be responsible for not just shaping copy, but assigning stories to a diverse pool of writers, conceiving and executing large features, and assisting in the management of PUNCH’s editorial team. This role will report directly to, and work very closely with, the Editor in Chief.

 

You Will

  • Help shape the editorial vision of PUNCH and supply the site with original and engaging content on a daily basis
  • Conceptualize and assign stories for publication
  • Manage a team of freelance writers, seeking out a new voices from all backgrounds
  • Assist the Editor in Chief in managing the in-house team of editors

 

You Have

  • 5+ years editing experience at a magazine, newspaper, or website
  • Established network of contacts in the world of drinks, food and culture
  • Experience with WordPress or other CMS systems
  • Familiarity with analytics programs such as Google Analytics or Omniture
  • The ideal candidate possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and is forward-thinking, agile, proactive, and an energetic collaborator
