
Penguin Random House is looking for an Associate Sales Manager to join the Direct Market Sales team!
The PRH Direct Market Sales team is seeking an Associate Sales Manager that will be responsible for maximizing sales growth across a designated territory. Working closely with the entire channel’s sales team to generate new sales for all publishing divisions and clients, the role will focus on growing business for the comic shop market.
The ideal candidate is proactive and results-driven with excellent communication and presentation skills, proactive with follow-up, and a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter. We are looking for a team player who is comfortable working with different communication styles, can ask for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Drive sales growth across the assigned account base
- Develop strategic sales plans and programs that maximize sell-in and sell-through for Direct Market accounts
- Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with key customers
- Proactively seek and develop new account opportunities
- Manage and update account databases, including buyer contact information and outreach activity
- Strategically position frontlist and backlist titles
- Collaborate with publishing teams on laydown units and inventory forecasting
- Partner with marketing teams to support strategy, trade shows, and materials
- Communicate account activities – including reorders, initiatives, etc. – to management
- Work closely with other sales managers to enhance skills, product, and market knowledge.

- Minimum of 3 years of sales experience, with hands-on direct selling experience at a comic shop and/or publishing house
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and excel in a fast-paced, high-volume, environment
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively
- Curious, proactive, and adaptable, with solid problem-solving skills
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time via plane, train, or car for account meetings.
The salary range for this position is $66,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to in-office meetings, author visits or events, and daily ad hoc administrative projects. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
