We’re looking for an Archive Manager who can deliver a forward-looking and efficient service.

With a history that stretches back to the mid-19th century, Penguin Random House UK has been central to the careers of many of the world’s best-known authors. The Penguin Random House UK Archive holds manuscripts, contracts and records, and unique one-off pieces of artwork and correspondence, as well as a 3rd party archiving service for other publishing companies. It gives an insight into the history of book publishing in the UK and is a physical representation of the important place that our company has in the UK’s cultural heritage.

You’ll be based at the Archive in Rushden, but the role will involve occasional travel to London.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing an excellent research enquiry service
  • Acquiring and maintaining materials
  • Developing and maintaining systems for curating and cataloguing the Archive
  • Overseeing budgets and expenses related to running the Archive
  • Strategic planning for the Archive
  • Overseeing parts of the Archive held in offsite locations
  • Forming new policies and best practices for archiving online information
  • Identifying new archive opportunities such as audio, film, etc

You’ll have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people. You’ll be extremely organised and have a high level of attention to detail. Self-driven, with strong leadership and influencing skills, you’ll be able to motivate and inspire the team.

You’ll need previous experience of managing an archive or other repository service, and developing a high-quality, customer-focused enquiry service. A sound knowledge and understanding of copyright and compliance in archives and libraries is also essential. Lastly, you will also need to have a post-graduate qualification in Archives and Records Management, or significant relevant experience.

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, please apply with your CV and covering letter by 10th December 2018.
