UX Designer

As the pengin.co.uk undergoes an editorial and visual transformation, as the UX Designer, you will play a key role in shaping the digital products of the most loved book publisher in the world. This role is at the heart of Penguin Random House’s digital product development strategy and process. A passion for books and design are an absolute must.

You will work closely with the Digital Development team as it develops an application, website or other digital products. Reporting to the Creative Director, you will be responsible for the design strategy based on the business goals and defined creative direction, taking part in brainstorming sessions, producing wireframes, prototypes and creating assets. You will lead on usability testing of prototypes and new development.

Your Responsibilities will lie across the following areas.

UX Design, Usability testing, Design Sprints and BAU projects.


Responsible for:

  • Facilitating brainstorming sessions with creative teams
  • Proactively keep informed on current trends in technology and design, and share how this may work with our digital products
  • Design interaction workflows, wireframes and interactive prototypes for digital products
  • Create and update IA docs for digital products to aid developers and testing houses
  • Responsible for user research and usability testing in collaboration with the Consumer Insight Team- create user personas, storyboards and flowcharts for all products
  • Advise on usability testing best practice, create documentation and run usability testing sessions
  • Responsible for training team in UX best practice for design sprints
  • Make design and implementation recommendations based on a user-centered perspective


You will have experience with the following:

  • Proven experience designing for a large customer facing website and / or other large scale web based experiences, ideally in an environment working closely with agile development teams.
  • Solid understanding of user centred design process, sketching user journeys, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing and creating highly detailed design specifications.
  • Ability to use common UX design prototyping or storyboarding tools (Sketch, Invision, etc.) to a level that enables them to communicate design intention effectively.
  • Experience designing native mobile applications across iOS and Android, as well as mobile web and desktop.
