Senior Workspace Designer, Technology (12mths FTC until June 2020)

Penguin Random House is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Workspace Designer to join our programme.

You will sit within the Workspace Services team and focusses on designing all elements relating to the end user compute world. This team has a focus on collaboration, Email, desktop (MAC & PC) build & configuration, file sharing and mobile device management.

You will design solutions, implement roadmaps and lifecycle management practices, as well as acting as an escalation point for Workspace Services team members and a senior technical representative for Infrastructure.


Your Key Responsibilities & Duties required for this role:

Workspace Services Designer

In addition to general infrastructure Design work as the Designer with key responsibility for Desktop & EUC the holder will:

  • Develop and maintain roadmaps for Windows & MAC Desktop Management, maintenance and deployment.
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps for VDI, desktop and application virtualisation technologies.
  • Develop and Maintain roadmaps for the collaboration suites (GSuite / O365)


Infrastructure Design Team

The Infrastructure Design Team within Infrastructure have two distinct areas of activity:

  • Providing Architectural Roadmaps, Plans, product selections and the environments & constraints to which designs are created.
  • Creating High & Low level designs for project and BAU work, working with the business, project teams and specialist resources to identify the “How” of the solution, and validate the delivery matches the design they have created.

This will include:

  • Work with the technical teams, the business and the wider Architecture team to develop roadmaps and product/platform selections including developing policies, validating standards and principles.
  • Work with the appropriate specialists, provide guidance to project teams on future technology direction in their specialist areas.
  • Develop the high level designs for projects, working with the specialist resources and 3rd parties ensuring alignment with roadmaps, principles, standards and best practice.
  • Present these designs at the Design Authority.
  • Work with the project delivery team and deliver the Low Level design, confirming accurate deployment of the design.
  • Work with service transition teams to ensure the designed solutions are supportable and transitioned to service teams.
  • Act as technical escalation for members of Workspace Services and the wider Infrastructure teams.


To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Architectural and hands on experience in a broad range of technologies including but not limited to:
  • Windows Server and Windows 10 Desktop Platforms
  • Apple Mac with Enterprise Integration
  • Blade Technologies including HP and Dell
  • Virtualization Technologies with VMWare
  • Application Deployment with SCCM
  • Office 365
  • Single Sign-On with Okta
  • Certifications and technical expert in a range of the above technologies
  • Knowledge and experience with Jamf Pro
  • Knowledge and experience with cloud platforms
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of ITIL, TOGAF and Prince2
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting complex systems
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and motivation, as well as problem solving capability and team working
