We are looking for a driven and passionate individual to take on a Non-fiction Publisher or Commissioning Editor upwards role to cover a period of parental leave. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with proven commissioning experience to join a thriving and collaborative team. We are open to consider a range of experience levels and will define the role accordingly. 

 

Although we are open to a range of experiences and are looking for a broad and general commercial mindset, we would particularly welcome candidates with experience in cookery and lifestyle commissioning and publishing, armed with an awareness of the various challenges around complex illustrated titles.

Michael Joseph specialises in commercial fiction and non-fiction, publishing best-selling titles in the genres of women’s fiction, crime, thriller, cookery, memoir, and lifestyle. We are home to an exciting array of authors including Marian Keyes, JoJo Moyes, Stephen Fry, Mrs Hinch, Nadiya Hussain, Eckhart Tolle and C.J Tudor to name but a few. 

 

Candidate Profile

 

  • Proven editorial experience including working with complex illustrated titles.
  • Confident negotiator with high emotional intelligence, and a great listener.
  • Great creative instincts combined with strong commercial judgement.
  • Collaborative mindset, but comfortable taking decisions autonomously where needed. 
  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • Proven record of commissioning and publishing commercially successful titles
  • Experience of working to budgets and handling financial information / data
