Paralegal (12-month FTC)
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Paralegal to join our Legal team in advising the business on a wide array of publishing and commercial matters.
Reporting directly to our Deputy Group Legal Director, you will work closely with your colleagues to provide essential legal support to both our publishing and commercial legal teams. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a team that shapes the future of publishing while ensuring legal compliance and excellence.

We publish books across all formats and have a strong brand licensing programme through our Penguin Ventures division.
This is currently a fixed term opportunity for 12 months, with the potential of becoming a permanent contract.
Key responsibilities:
- Advising on copyright clearance.
- Supporting the prepublication legal review of manuscripts.
- Undertaking general legal research on a variety of media and commercial areas.
- Evidence gathering for media litigation matters.
- Advising on general marketing and publicity related queries and terms and conditions.
- Providing support to the team on NDAs.
- Maintaining internal records as required including data processing agreements logs.
- Assisting with freelance contracts.
- Updating internal templates.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to support our anti-piracy manager, including undertaking research into infringing content and assisting with takedown requests.
What you’ll bring
Essential criteria:
- Prior experience of working in a law firm or in-house legal team as a legal assistant, legal secretary or paralegal. Experience in the field of media or entertainment would be desirable.
- Excellent self-management – pro-active and self-motivated, able to manage busy workload
- Deadline management - multi- tasking and prioritising effectively to manage deadlines from different stakeholders in legal and across the business.
- A strong communicator who is able to adapt their style between stakeholders. Communicates with clarity and conviction
- Commerciality – ensuring advice and action is commercial and pragmatic.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- A strong team player
Preferred criteria:
- A paralegal qualification is ideal though not essential.

Salary
£40,000 - £50,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
