Are you passionate about complex analytical challenges in a commercial environment?


We’re looking for a Insight Analyst (maternity cover FTC) to work on analysis and predictive modelling projects that help drive Penguin Random House towards successful commercial gain.


As a member of our Group Strategy and Commercial team, you'll use your skills in statistical analysis and modelling to conduct AB testing on eBook pricing, assist experimentation with other online commercial levers to optimise sales, review and improve our predictive models for price elasticity, and forecast sales/ market share.


This role has a strong emphasis on building and driving cutting-edge analytics that could influence our business to make the right data driven decisions in their marketing and commercial strategies. You’ll do this by providing a range of in-depth analysis into retailer insights, competitor activities, consumer behaviour data, and more. You'll also communicate your findings clearly and effectively to the business, and share best practices from your analytics across our UK and international divisions.


You’ll work with a team of analysts to conduct analysis in a big data environment, and interrogate large databases of information by using your head for numbers, strong data query skills, and partnering with our data warehouse team.


Here’s what we’re looking for from you:

  • Passion about reaching data-driven and quantitative conclusions, data management and visual analytics
  • Hands-on experience with big data using SQL and R
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience working in business analytics or similar
  • Professional experience in using R as the primary tool for statistical modelling, in-depth analysis, including regression, segmentation, key univariate and multivariate analysis principles, report production and data visualisations
  • Experience in conducting robust AB test for business recommendations that optimises KPIs
  • Confidence in presenting your findings to both a technical and a non-technical audience
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask, and work with others across various levels and roles
  • Great attention to detail to ensure data and analysis accuracy
  • Ideally a strong background in Maths, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Operational Research and Decision Sciences etc.
  • Enthusiasm about a career in a creative business
