Head of HR - Maternity Cover

What does great HR mean to you?

Is it about offering strong commercial business partnering?  Is it about helping an organisation manage cultural change? Is it about going beyond process and creatively problem solving?

Perhaps it’s all of those things.

At Penguin Random House, above all, we care about delivering the best possible experience for our employees at every moment that matters. We work in a creative and fast paced environment, so doing things differently and keeping things human and simple is at the heart of our approach.

If that strikes a chord with you, then we could be a great fit for one another.

We’re looking for a Head of HR to lead our HR Generalist function as a maternity cover across the UK business – covering our publishing houses, group functions (like Sales and Finance), and distribution warehouses.

Along with leading the team to deliver proactive, high quality HR interventions this role leads on significant organisational HR activities such as our Company wellbeing strategy and our future of work project focusing on hybrid working. You’ll also lead on all activities related to our strategic goal to optimise our supply chain, such as our distribution culture change project.

  • You’ll head up a team of twelve, with four HR Managers and eight HR advisors.
  • Lead on the implementation of relevant HR activities or projects from policy design and implementation through to restructures and change programmes.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and leaders in the business.
  • Provide expert input across a range of HR issues to design and deliver solutions that meet the needs of the business.

If this sounds like the role for you, here’s what we’re looking for:

  • You’ll need to be an experienced and inspiring leader – able to use your coaching skills to develop your team, and partner with senior colleagues.
  • You’ll have solid technical HR expertise and in-depth understanding of employment law; the ability to handle complex and sensitive cases; managing cultural and business changes.
  • You’ll have a track record in business partnering and managing change activity.
  • Experience working with unions would be beneficial but isn’t essential.

If the role interests you then we’d love to hear from you.

Please apply with a CV and Covering Letter by 29th September telling us how your experience matches the role.

This position is currently part time, 4 days a week. For this maternity cover we’ll consider the same on a part time basis, or full time 5 days a week.
