We’re looking for a Full stack Developer to lead in-house web development, as well as maintain a suite of websites.


Penguin Random House is the UK’s largest publishing house, and we’re all about creating experiences that surprise and delight our readers. For you, that means using technical skills on creative and innovative projects to complement and augment our books and authors, and ensuring we’ve got a scalable approach that can support a growing number of global users and services.


As well as reviewing and testing code from other developers and 3rd parties, you’ll develop and maintain all aspects of the platform code to build shippable software following Engineering standards.


You’ll need:

  • Experience with Java, PHP, Node.js, JavaScript
  • Familiarity with C#
  • Excellent understanding of databases, their creation and maintenance, with a particular focus on MySQL
  • Experience with AWS (EC2, ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB)
  • Excellent mobile first front-end development skills including HTML5, CSS3
  • Experience working with and developing APIs
  • Experience working with Git source control
  • Experience working on enterprise level CMS systems


Also useful would be knowledge of WordPress, building and deploying Web Content Management solutions on Adobe Experience Manager 6.x, experience with Adobe Marketing Cloud, and familiarity with IIS.


We’re looking for someone passionate about keeping up with the latest technologies and sharing your expertise through workshops, documentation and coaching other team members.  Strong communication skills are a must, whether you’re collaborating with agencies or building a business stakeholder relationship.


You’ll be comfortable managing multiple conflicting priorities and working autonomously, and enjoy using a multitude of different technologies and languages.
