Warehouse Duty Manager (night shift), Colchester

We are looking for a Warehouse Duty Manager to join our team based at our Distribution centre in Frating, Essex on a permanent basis. This position will cover the night shift, from 10pm to 6am on Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Sun weekly).

 

As Warehouse Duty Manager, you will be a role model for ensuring that everyone is striving to deliver the day to day operations of the warehouse site. This primarily means the picking, packing, despatching and receiving of Penguin Random House stock, and will be achieved by supporting, coaching and motivating the on-site team through effective, clear and consistent leadership.

 

You will deliver excellent results by driving performance to achieve targets, developing trust with your teams and creating a learning culture where colleagues feel empowered and supported. You’ll have responsibility for succession planning, staff development, performance management and continuous improvement of processes and tasks.

 

As this is a key leadership role, you will be expected to be on hand to manage any ad hoc issues and requirements of the business that occur outside of the core hours of 6am-2pm, Monday to Friday.

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

 

  • Planning and prioritising daily and weekly tasks, activities and processes, distributing workload and ensuring that all employees have sufficient tools and resources in order to meet daily team targets and requirements

 

  • Responsibility for the overall management of the people within the warehouse operation, monitoring team trends, supporting and coaching first line managers and motivating employees by being consistent, devolving responsibility and developing trust

 

  • Responsibility for the day to day running of the Frating site, reporting to the Warehouse Operations Manager

 

  • Ensuring that all site health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to in order to maintain a safe working environment for all staff

 

  • Delivering excellent results through effective leadership of a team of Warehouse Team Leaders

 

To be successful in this position you will have excellent communication skills and will be able to remain calm and focused under pressure. Your natural, self-driven leadership skills will give you the ability to increase team effectiveness and your focus on customer satisfaction and quality service delivery will be key.

 

It is essential that you have previous experience of working within a busy distribution warehouse/logistics environment and that you have a strong understanding of general Bulk Storage, Returns and Supply Chain processes, techniques and systems.

 

You’ll be PC literate, have strong numerical skills and will ideally have an IOSH Managing Safely certificate. A NEBOSH certification is desirable but not essential.

Salary: £24,405 - £36,607 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role plus bonus and benefits.
