Rights Revenue Manager, Royalty Services (Colchester)


The Penguin Random House Royalty Services team are looking for a Rights Revenue Manager to come on board in this crucial role. Based at our Distribution site in Frating, Colchester you will be responsible for managing the two Rights teams and working closely with the Head of Royalties.


The Royalty Services department sits within Finance Services encompassing all imprints for Random House, Penguin and Dorling Kindersley. Royalties are responsible for the payments and financial reporting according to the contractual terms as set out in the legal contracts with the rights holders.


This position deals with licensees and stakeholders across the publishing business. As a senior member of the team, you’ll assist the Head of Royalties in improving communication with other departments to build effective business relationships. You’ll also recommend changes to existing methods of working to improve efficiency, accuracy and reporting.


Rights Processing


  • Learn all aspects of rights contracts, statement and income processing and credit control to be an expert in this area
  • Work with the team leaders to ensure that all processes are carried out accurately and efficiently by reviewing workload and KPIs
  • Champion improvements and work with all stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Attend regular meetings with Rights colleagues in the London offices and Credit Services in Frating
  • Ensure that all processes are documented and kept up to date and that tasks have adequate cover within the teams
  • Work with the other managers to ensure that period end accounting is accurate
  • Review credit control reports to ensure that overdue amounts are being chased in a timely manner and any issues are escalated to the rights and finance departments. 


Staff Management


  • Work closely with the rest of the Royalty senior team to coordinate the whole department. 
  • Play an active role in change management within the department
  • Assist team leaders at busy periods and provide cover for them in their absence
  • Carry out performance reviews for direct reports
  • Coordinate / organise training and personal development across the department to meet the needs of the individual and the business
  • Carry out absence management interviews including monitoring where necessary


To be successful in this role you will be solutions focused, able to pre-empt problems and be an influential team player. You will have proven management skills within a large royalty department or similar environment such as sales ledger/credit management. You will be able to demonstrate previous experience in continuous improvement and will have strong MS Office Excel, Word and Outlook skills. Experience of using SAP and an accounting qualification or qualified by experience will be desirable.
