We have an exciting new role for a Release and QA Manager. You will report into the Head of Warehouse and Distribution System.

You will manage the test and release planning for our suite of applications.  Working with our stakeholders the role is responsible for developing and delivering a robust, controlled and planned testing and release process for both projects and day to day changes.  The scope of the role covers the testing and deployment process, development and management of test plans, management of the test team and the automated suite of testing tools.  The role coordinates testing and bug fix activities across suppliers, business analysts, support teams and business users.  Management, coaching, development and day-to-day leadership of test resources.


Core responsibilities:

Planning

Management of:

  • Test execution, tracking and reporting: Involving test team, Product Management, Business Analysts, Application Support team and business users
  • Bug fixes and feature deliveries from external suppliers
  • Delivery and deployment of developments, bug fixes and general releases into test environments, and management of subsequent testing.
  • Deployment process into the live environment.
  • Work with both external suppliers and internal development teams to define and manage a pipeline of delivery, testing, and deployment.
  • Work with the SAP team (and potentially others) to co-ordinate upgrades, data refreshes and transports to ensure environments are aligned.
  • Identify, manage and communicate any risks and dependencies between releases.
  • Ensure on-going review of test strategies across all Warehouse and Distribution applications.
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure go live dates are communicated and co-ordinated with operational activity.
  • Work with application teams to design and implement changes to the test and release processes for all applications impacted by changes to the testing environments.

 

Testing

  • Responsible for coordination of UAT testing, liaising with end users to ensure requirements and timescales are communicated, planned and understood.
  • Manage delivery from both internal teams and 3rd party vendors, ensuring any issues and concerns over delivery and quality are managed, understood and resolved.
  • Ensure code has been through a rigorous QA process before handing over to the end users for UAT.
  • Ensure test scripts are in place for UAT and regression testing.
  • Ensure testing specifications are properly linked to detailed business requirements.
  • Liaise with internal teams to plan and deliver regression testing.
  • Provide regular progress reports as required to the team and stakeholders.
  • Work with suppliers and internal development teams to ensure the code being delivered into live is of sufficient quality to limit the impact on live operation.
  • Develop the automation test tool to deliver a robust functional testing process and maximise its potential.
  • Clear and accurate reporting of: Test coverage, impact of defects, and rigorous assessment of any risks associated with a deployment
  • Clear assessment / determination of impact of defects, and efficacy of workarounds if present

 

Team

  • Performance management of the team, ensuring regular 1-1’s, team meetings and PDR reviews are held.
  • Manage the workload of the team ensuring areas of responsibility are understood, knowledge share becomes second nature and appropriate documentation is in place.
  • Develop strong working relationships with super users, the rest of the Technology team and suppliers.
  • Release management
  • Manage the release process for all deployments into test and production environments.
  • Work with project and development teams to co-ordinate any releases ensuring a consistent process is followed.
  • Ownership and on-going management of the release module in Service Now.
  • Work with the Service Management team to enhance the functionality of the Release module in Service Now.
  • Co-ordinate with the support teams any change management communication, change approval and CAB attendance.
  • Ensure a release strategy is in place and followed for each application.
  • Ensure communication is timely and effective for all deployments.
  • Chair go/no go meetings for the deployments; presenting test results and the release plan to fully inform all relevant stakeholders and the Service Owner.
  • Ensure required resources are available for each deployment.
  • Report on post go live issues ensuring a plan is in place for resolution.
  • General: The role acts as a gatekeeper to the live environment, working closely with the other support and analysis teams, ensuring that all code deployments have been through a rigorous assurance process before they are deployed into live.
  • The role is the source of accurate and timely information regarding testing progress, defect discovery / fix rates, impediments to deployment, and risks to business processes.

  • Experience & Skills we’re looking for:
  • Proven track record of effectively testing business systems and applications.
  • Previous line management experience.
  • Acted as point of contact with users, IT departments and suppliers.
  • Experience of working as a Test Manager / Lead, with a proven track record of improving testing processes.
  • Ability to thrive in high pressure and fast moving environments.
  • Understanding of different development methodologies.
  • Stakeholder management experience.
  • Experience in writing detailed test scripts and test plans.
  • Understanding of integration testing and the ability to work alongside other project teams and 3rd parties.
  • Experience with Interface testing.
  • Understanding and experience of Cross Browser testing.
  • Experience of working with testing tools e.g. Jira, Silk.
  • Good understanding of Warehouse and Distribution systems.
  • Web testing experience.
  • Understanding of Project Management principles.

 

Salary: £41k - £60k dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits
