Our Facilities team are looking for someone to provide dynamic, strategic leadership on Health, Safety and Environmental issues across all areas of the Penguin Random House Group.

We’re looking for someone who can work with Directors and Managers across the business to establish best practice, and strive for continuous improvement. You will need to provide clear leadership for the development of a safe environment for colleagues and visitors alike.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Driving the energy and waste management strategy
  • Ensuring all offices and warehouses have sufficient management systems and reduce risk through a 24/6 operation
  • Ensuring company policy is up to date and consistently applied across all sites
  • Monitoring and evaluating existing and new legislation to ensure the Group has systems in place to meet legal compliance
  • Coordinating and audit the health, safety and environmental risk register and the HSE business continuity (BCP) programme
  • Identifying and delivering employee training needs or sourcing providers for updated training
  • Managing the Group HSE Coordinator, supporting and identifying their development needs

This role will also include occasional travel to London.

You will need excellent written and spoken communication skills and be able to build a rapport with a variety of people. You’ll understand complex information and be able to present it in a clear and concise way to non-experts. Experience of working in a multi-site organisation with a complex structure is essential. We're looking for someone with a flexible and collaborative approach, but someone who can also negotiate with senior stakeholders.

You’ll be NEBOSH Diploma qualified or have a Diploma in Safety Management/Environmental Management, and be up to date on Health & Safety and Environmental law. You'll need experience of managing HSE in a large, multi-site business with both office staff and warehouse staff. Perhaps you're already a Health & Safety specialist with experience working within an environmental/FM role

The ideal candidate will be Professional Level (Chartered) Membership of IOSH, IIRSM and/or IEMA, and have experience managing a direct report. A working knowledge of publishing and distribution would be advantageous too.

If this sounds like you, please apply with a CV and cover letter by 25th February. Early applications will be prioritised.
