Application Integration/Middleware Manager (18m FTC), Technology

The Application Integration/Middleware Manager will report to the Director of ERP Systems and is responsible for providing excellent leadership and management of the technologies and applications that support the integration of our complex enterprise landscape.

You’ll ensure that interface and middleware activities are aligned with the PRH integration strategy and that technical design and operational excellence is consistently maintained for current and future requirements.

This role requires collaboration across teams to ensure that our highly integrated landscape has appropriate monitoring, alerting and data recoverability, so as to provide a high-level service to our business community.

You can expect to be

  • Leading and managing Penguin Random House middleware systems providing high levels of service integrity, resilience, availability and business continuity matching agreed service levels.
  • Managing the technology support and development teams providing guidance and leadership.
  • Manage the middleware system administration, technical support and consistency of the PRH middleware solutions.
  • Support the development of the three to five year roadmap, aligning with the overall enterprise strategy and direction.
  • Leading the team of middleware, support, and integration specialists to deliver exceptional service, develop and implement best practice processes and procedures across the team.
  • Leading the team responsible for design and development of EDI application interfaces and maps and is responsible for the EDI strategy to support organizational initiatives. Manages and leads the EDI projects including documentation, quality assurance, implementation support, and workflow management.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need

  • Significant experience of IT applications development and support management in a complex distribution environment
  • Expert knowledge of middleware capabilities including Sterling Integrator, Biztalk, ftp/sftp protocols, APIs, or other current technologies.
  • Knowledge of EDI capabilities and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Automic or similar batch scheduling tools
  • Demonstrable experience of complex integration landscapes
  • Knowledge on the typical wide range of technologies deployed in a publishing focussed business.
  • Leadership experience
  • Demonstrable ability to create high performance teams
  • Excellent track record in both service and people development
  • Proven ability to take ownership of problems and the decision-making process to resolve them
  • Experience of ‘Hands-On’ integration and middleware capabilities
  • Good analytical abilities, interpersonal, and reporting skills


This role will be based at our Distribution site in Frating, Colchester.
