Sales Representative, National Accounts (15 – Month Contract)  

 

Location: 320 Front Street, Toronto, Ontario. In office (minimum three days per week; dependent on role)

Expected Compensation: The salary for this position begins at $51,425 and will be determined based on experience.

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented and collaborative Sales Representative to join our sales, marketing, and publicity team on a 15-Month contract.

Your contribution to the story: 

 

At Penguin Random House Canada, we strive to provide best-in-class service to our independent bookstore accounts by providing curated title assortment, inventory replenishment overview and general full account management with an eye to positioning our books in the overall Canadian marketplace of our readers. 

 

As part of this team, the Sales Representative for National Accounts will be responsible for selling Penguin Random House Canada titles across imprints to key accounts throughout the region. You will focus on relationship management, market insights, and merchandising support; analyzing customer needs, curating tailored title selections, and representing a diverse catalogue of books to help accounts maximize sales and visibility. 

 

Reporting to the Director, Indigo & Costco Sales, you will play a key role in delivering this experience by providing service internally to various stakeholders as well as externally to our accounts, authors and readers.    

 

What you’ll do:  

 

  • Sell and present titles to national retail accounts. 

  • Build strong, consultative relationships with buyers, tailoring recommendations to their customer base and market trends. 

  • Plan and implement strategic sales initiatives, promotions, and merchandising opportunities. 

  • Track and manage orders, inventory needs, and sales performance. 

  • Liaise with internal teams across publishing, marketing, publicity, and operations to advocate for account needs. 

  • Actively contribute at conferences and meetings to help shape the sales strategy of a title, and ensure all stakeholders are aware of current trends and factors in the marketplace.   

  • Stay informed about new releases, backlist opportunities, and upcoming campaigns. 

 

Experience and knowledge you’ll bring (qualifications): 

 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in sales or retail (book or media experience preferred) 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Familiarity with independent book retailers in Canada, particularly those in your territory. 

  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines with strong attention to detail. 

  • Strategic thinker with a customer-first mindset. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Salesforce, Edelweiss, or Catalist, and BookManager is an asset.  

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.  

  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally. 

  • A proactive, analytical, and imaginative approach to problem solving. 

  • Strong time management skills and superb attention to detail. 

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines. 

  • An inclusive approach, supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from across a wide range of diverse backgrounds. 

  • Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization is considered a plus. 

  • And of course, a deep passion for books! 

 

 

 

 

This role is expected to work at least three days per week from our office located at 320 Front Street West, Toronto, ON.  Therefore, candidates should reside within the commuting distance of our office.
