
Book Production Assistant
Location: 320 Front Street, Toronto, Ontario. In office minimum three days per week.

We’re looking for an organized, creative, and collaborative Production Assistant to join the Book Production team.

Your Contribution to the Story
At Penguin Random House Canada, our Production team is fast-paced and essential, ensuring we create quality books on time and on budget. As part of this team, the Production Assistant will support the Production team in day to days tasks, including a focus on creating ARCs, processing reprints, and digital file management.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Production, you will collaborate with editorial, rights, design, printers, and other key stakeholders to deliver the best experience to our readers.
What You’ll Do
- Work within Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat to create print-ready files, with particular focus on ARCs and reprints. Includes layout of full cover mechanicals for ARCs based on provided front cover designs, mindfully extending approved designs to ensure cohesive, print-ready final files.
- Liaise with editorial and print partners on scheduling and preparing materials for press.
- Review final files for accuracy before they go to press and evaluate printed sample books for quality control.
- Write purchase orders and locate reference materials as needed
- Assist with digital archiving, provide digital assets for international editions, and related invoicing.
- Provide general team support as needed, including maintenance of our book samples room.
Experience and Knowledge You’ll Bring (Qualifications)
- A strong sense of curiosity about how books are produced.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly InDesign and Acrobat)
- Basic technical knowledge of print requirements and optimal file set-up.
- Excellent communication skills with acute attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (advanced skills with Excel would be an asset) and collaborative digital tools including Teams and similar platforms.
- Strong organization and time management skills that allow you to prioritize your objectives and meet all deadlines.
- An inclusive approach to your work, supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from across a wide range of diverse backgrounds.
- A proactive mindset coupled with an ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
- Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization is considered a plus.
- And, of course, a love for books!
This role is expected to work a minimum of three-days per week in-office at our Toronto office at 320 Front Street West. As such, candidates need to reside within commuting distance of our office.
