Reports to: Managing Director Audio Alliance UK / Storyglass

Location: London

About the team:

Storyglass is a dedicated podcast studio and publishing label at the heart of the Bertelsmann Group.

We have a reputation for creating award winning and high-quality programming for intelligent, informed and international audiences. As part of a global media group with broadcasting, publishing and production interests around the world, we can legitimately offer talent, brands, organisations and charities a vertically integrated approach to content development, production, distribution and monetisation.

Job overview:

We are looking for an experienced and creatively proven Development Executive to provide maternity cover.

Working with other members of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development of a range of high profile domestic and international podcasts – and contribute to our overall content strategy.

Experience and knowledge required:

The ideal candidate is likely to have extensive experience as a Development Producer, Executive Producer or Creative Director.

They will have more ideas than they know what to do with. They will be an innovative thinker and a master storyteller. They will develop ideas, research opportunities, test formats, create pitch materials and work with partners across multiple genres. They will have editorial vision, be creatively brave and have a track record of success. They are likely to have a background in audio, but could equally come from other sectors (television, digital, theatre, gaming etc).

Additionally, the successful candidate will be an experienced communicator, an exceptional writer and persuasive presenter. They will ideally bring talent relationships with them – and have the ability to establish new ones.  They will also have impeccable stakeholder management skills.

A demonstrable passion for and understanding of all aspects of development (research, casting, writing, presenting, pitching etc) is essential, combined with project management and production experience in the context creating pilots, teasers, multi-media presentations etc.

Here you’ll get to:

  • Tell stories that deserve to be told
  • Give people who deserve to be heard a voice
  • Work with the stars of today – and find the stars of tomorrow
  • Identify opportunities, ideas and formats that will help to shape the future of podcasting
  • Oversee the development of a slate of high-profile audio projects (podcasts, radio etc) across multiple genres – and be involved in their production where appropriate
  • Recognise the cross-format potential in ideas as part of a Bertelsmann Group IP incubation strategy (‘audio first, but not audio last’)
  • Create world class, compelling and ultimately successful pitch materials in support of our content strategy
  • Provide notes, script editing, creative recommendations and other development/editorial support for internal teams and external production partners
  • Work closely with internal colleagues/teams on marketing and merchandising strategies, promotional campaigns and production
  • Contribute to Storyglass’s wider content strategy

We’re looking for:

  • Exceptional editorial judgement and creative thinking
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of development
  • Proven writing, editing, design and presentation skills
  • A deep understanding of the podcasting and/or radio landscape
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders across content partnerships, co-productions and production teams
  • A collaborative, influential and persuasive approach to creativity
  • An extensive network of relationships in terms of commissioners, writers, agents, producers, rights owners, talent etc
  • An understanding of the commercial realities of podcasting
  • Pro-active approach to generating ideas, exploring opportunities and building relationships, in the context of business and creative development
  • Impeccable people skills in terms of maintaining internal relationships and fostering external ones
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Dynamic, energised and inspirational approach
  • Capacity for innovative thinking and creative problem solving
  • Ability to generate new ideas that are in line with our content strategy
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Ability to interpret and apply audience insights, research and listening data
  • An understanding of digital content services and platforms (either download to own and/or streaming)
  • Ability to record, edit, mix and process digital tape (ProTools/Adobe Audition or similar experience in other audio editing software would be an advantage)
