The implementation of this key component of the Bertelsmann strategy falls under the responsibility of the Bertelsmann Education Group, which concerns itself with the identification, economic and financial analysis, and execution of investments in the education sector, as well as the long-term management of portfolio companies. The group consist of a small team that is located in offices in Berlin and New York City.

The Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions will be based in New York City.


Job Description


Role and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions in New York City are:

  • Financial modeling and assessment (DCF, CAPM, Comparables)
  • Financial, legal and commercial due diligence
  • Development of investment proposals for the management and supervisory board of Bertelsmann
  • Market analyses and identification of target companies within the education sector as well as the creation of company profiles
  • Integration planning (post-merger integration)
  • Financing questions and financial analysis for existing portfolio companies
  • Support of portfolio companies in project management role
  • Manage a team of 2 direct reports


Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 2-5 years of practical experience within the strategy or finance sector, for example at consulting firms or investment banks
  • Excellent academic performance
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent preferred
  • Pronounced analytical abilities and excellent economic knowledge in the areas of mergers & acquisitions, strategy and finance
  • Dependability, team orientation, willingness to learn and curiosity as well as social competencies and an independent working style
  • Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Excel modeling skills are required.
  • Fluency in English required
  • Fluency in German and additional language skills preferred
  • Education industry experience preferred
  • Proven leadership ability
